Suvarnabhumi International Airport, currently under construction at Nong Ngu Hao in Samut Prakarn Province, about 25 km east of Bangkok, is the most recent undertaken by ITD in a long history of airport works dating back to 1963. With an initial capacity of 45 million passengers per year, this is the largest green-field site airport currently under construction in the world. ITD has undertaken, and is currently undertaking, the following contracts (some with international joint venture partners) for this prestigious national project that is scheduled for completion in late 2005:
Suvarnabhumi (Second Bangkok) International Airport Project Passenger Terminal Complex, Packages 2 & 3 Construction of a passenger terminal complex consisting of the Main Terminal Building of structural steel and reinforced concrete, with total service area of 176,000 m2, and the Concourses of structural steel and reinforced concrete. The length of the east-west Concourse section is 1,350 m, and the two north-south legs are 932 m. The total Concourse service area is 384,000 m2. ITD provides the expertise and resources for the turnkey design and construction of complex passenger terminals, mainly at operational airports. On major projects ITD selects and works with internationally recognised specialist airport planners, architectural and engineering design consultants, vendors of high-tech specialist airport systems and international contractors to implement the latest technologies for the construction and operational effectiveness of the completed projects. |
